Lab-Grown or Natural: An Honest Conversation

The GLISORA Atelier26 June 20264 min read

Three diamonds of different cuts on midnight-blue fabric

We set both. Here is how we help clients choose between them — without the sales script.

Few questions reach our concierge more often than this one: should I choose a natural diamond or a lab-grown one? Because GLISORA sets both, we have no script to sell you. What we have is a decade of watching clients live with their choice — and a few honest observations.

The same stone, two origins

Chemically, optically and physically, a lab-grown diamond is a diamond. The same carbon lattice, the same fire, the same hardness. Under a loupe, our own setters cannot tell them apart; only laboratory instruments can. Both arrive at our bench with full IGI or GIA certification, and both are set with identical care.

Where they differ

  • Rarity. A natural diamond spent a billion years beneath the earth; supply is finite and the finest stones are genuinely scarce. Lab-grown diamonds can be produced to demand.
  • Price. A lab-grown stone typically costs a fraction of its natural twin — which can mean a larger or finer stone within the same budget.
  • Value over time. Natural stones have a long history of holding meaning and worth across generations. Lab-grown prices have moved steadily downward as production scales. If resale value matters to you, that difference is real and we will say so plainly.
Choose natural for permanence and rarity. Choose lab-grown for reach — more stone, more often, for the same commitment.

What we see clients choose

Heirloom and anniversary pieces lean natural — the story of deep time matters to those occasions. First engagement rings increasingly go lab-grown, with the difference invested in the setting or the honeymoon. Neither choice has ever been regretted in our showroom for the reason people fear; regret only visits when someone was talked into a stone that was never theirs.

Undecided? Ask our concierge on WhatsApp to show you the same design priced both ways. Seeing the two side by side usually answers the question in minutes.
