The Four C's of a Diamond
Every diamond is graded on four characteristics. Understanding them helps you choose a stone that is beautiful to the eye and right for you.
The four characteristics

Cut
The most important C. Cut governs how light enters and returns to the eye as sparkle. A precisely cut diamond is dazzling; a poorly cut one looks dull, regardless of its other qualities.

Colour
Graded D (colourless) to Z (light yellow). The less colour, the rarer and brighter the stone. D–F are colourless; G–J are near-colourless and often the sweet spot of value and beauty.

Clarity
Measures tiny natural inclusions, from Flawless (FL) to Included (I). Most inclusions are invisible without magnification. VS and VVS stones are 'eye-clean' and highly prized.

Carat
A diamond's weight, not its size — one carat equals 0.2 grams. Two stones of equal carat can look different sizes depending on their cut and proportions.

Why cut leads
If you remember one thing, let it be this: cut comes first. It is the only C determined entirely by human skill rather than nature, and it has the greatest effect on a diamond's brilliance.
A well-cut diamond of a slightly lower colour or clarity grade will almost always outshine a larger stone that has been cut to save weight. We guide every piece toward the proportions that make a stone come alive.
“There is no single 'best' diamond — only the one that is right for you. We help you balance the four C's around the character and budget you have in mind.”
