Lab-grown diamonds
Are lab-grown diamonds real diamonds?+
Yes. They are chemically, physically and optically identical to mined diamonds. They are not simulants like cubic zirconia or moissanite — they are real diamonds, simply grown above ground.
Can anyone tell the difference?+
Not with the naked eye, a loupe, or standard jewellers' tools. Distinguishing a lab-grown from a mined diamond requires specialised laboratory equipment, and even then it's a matter of detecting origin, not quality.
Are they as durable?+
Exactly as durable. Diamond is the hardest natural material on earth at 10 on the Mohs scale, whether grown in the earth or a laboratory.
